As Halloween approaches, Joe unveils to his friends the pumpkin he's been growing for the upcoming contest, which he has repeatedly lost to local legend Patrick McCloskey. But when his obsession gets on the others' nerves, they decide to sabotage him by hiding his pumpkin, only to accidentally break it. Upon getting caught, Peter decides to make it up to Joe by hiding inside the pumpkin during the contest and ends up winning, only to get caught. When it turns out that every entrant, including Patrick's, has cheated by hiding an obese man inside a pumpkin, the contest is effectively off.
Rupert Comes to Life
Meanwhile, after a falling out with Brian over a Sonny & Cher costume, Stewie decides to bring Rupert to life and trick or treat with him instead, though his attempt seemingly doesn't work. In actuality, Rupert overhears Stewie's venting about wanting Brian dead and sets out to murder him. Stewie soon catches on to this and catches Rupert before he can deal the final blow. Rupert laments the fact that he always comes second to Brian and strives to eliminate him in order to eliminate the competition. Stewie reluctantly kills Rupert by drowning him in a toilet, before Brian apologizes for his selfishness.
The episode ends with Stewie getting Rupert fresh from the dryer and telling him everything that happened earlier.
