When Peter makes it through a bad flu season that affects most of the family, the hospital asks him to volunteer as a nurse which goes as expected with Peter. But when Ernie the giant chicken becomes his patient, he is surprised that he's not there for a fight and claims he is dying. Peter tries to refuse care but is shamed into it by Dr. Hartman. As Peter decides to celebrate a final victory with the family, Lois convinces him that he needs the chicken in his life. He continues to ignore him, although he has a flashback of their past fights. When the chicken finally dies, Peter bursts in and gives him violent CPR, bringing him back. He admits that the chicken helps complete him, but also saved him because he would be solely responsible financially for the damages caused by their previous fights.

Later at night, Peter gets a snack and turns on the outside lights before going to bed to find Ernie standing there. Peter turns off the light again assured that all is right in the world.
