Lois decides to sell the family's television to help pay for Christmas presents, but when Kevin James gets upset over losing Peter as a viewer, he apparates into the Griffin house.

While the other Griffins are decorating the house for Christmas, Peter sits down to watch Frosty the Snowman, only to discover that the TV is missing. Lois explains that she sold it in order to afford presents for the family, and she and Meg argue that having a TV is pointless due to the rise of streaming. After some convincing from his wife and friends, Peter reluctantly decides to give Netflix a try, but is interrupted by Kevin James, who is now unemployed since Peter was his last viewer before the Griffins' TV was sold. Kevin proves himself to be very absorbed in sitcom clichés and unfamiliar with off-air life, so Peter offers to help him adjust, promising Lois that he will send him away once that's done.

Before long, Peter manages to set Kevin straight as he finds a new job and girlfriend, but Kevin soon discovers his body is starting to disappear due to streaming shows making him irrelevant. The family brainstorms TV show ideas to help save him, but are interrupted by Lois, who plans to bring everyone to the nativity scene at Town Hall. Peter gets the idea to insert Kevin into the scene, where following some difficulties and a speech about the benefits of network TV, he manages to win over the audience and get his body back. This prompts various TV sitcom stars to emerge from a nearby cornfield, alongside a TV producer who offers to give Kevin a new show. With his TV career revived, Kevin rises into the sky and disappears in a flurry of stars.
